Star Trek: Starbase 777 - etd-science-labs

Sak had just arrived on the Eventide Science Lab, when he felt an overwhelming sense of fear, anxiousness, and...surprisingly, excitement. It had been his first time being on the Eventide, though, it would have been better under different circumstances. Oh well, to each their own. Sak shrugged and sat down on a nearby chair next to a small desk.

Alright, their first mission since transferring to Starbase 777! This investigation wasn't quite their specialty, but Kureen was happy to be out and about regardless- and anyways, they've never seen a Starfleet mission that didn't need some scientists. They took a seat next to one of the desks, waving to the Cardassian ensign on the other side of the room.

Sak noticed as someone sat on the other side of the room, and returned the wave to them. Admittedly, he hadn't seen them in the Starbase, so he figured they may be new.... for him. He thought he should introduce himself, his mother did tell him to make some friends while he was there. Sak walked up to them and gave a warm smile. "Hello, i'm Sak Dergin. Nice to meet you, and you are?" He held out his hand for a handshake.

Paco read the mission brief. The junior lieutenant read it thrice actually. The Breld Company, a manifestation of corrupt capitalism, may be mounting a offensive against the Federation and it is the Eventide's task to investigate and possibly intervene.... Why he volunteered to join this mission, despite previous experiences, was beyond him, but nonetheless, he is here for better or worse. The Eventide is a science vessel, and a science vessel needs scientists. Now is about the time to put on a brave, or at least calm and steady, face as he entered the lab. "Hello everyone." Paco greeted with a smile. Despite of the looming anxiety, he was also excited for what this holds for this mission.

Kureen returned the gesture, shaking Dergin's hand and smiling- although their smile wasn't particularly similar to his, considering one had a beak and the other didn't. "I'm Kureen-Et. Just transferred here. It's nice to meet you as well!" They turned their head, waving to the other officer who had entered the room. "Hello!"

Sak shook the newcomer's hand and turned their attention towards the other officer along with Kureen. "Ah, a new person! Hello there!" Sak also waved at the new entry.

The ferengi entered the labs and saluted, he seemed later nervous, as he moved to one of the science consoles. But everyones good spirits and friendliness seemed to refocus him "Hello i'm vokk!, i'll be doing my best, is my first mission but that just means i'll work extra hard!" He looked around to everyones pips "I'll run some boot up tests if that's okay lieutenant!."

Although the mission wasn't a cheerful one, the atmosphere in the lab was thus far pleasant and their crewmates all seemed quite nice. Surely, this was going to go just fine.

Sak raised an eyebrow as the newer entry came in. They looked...enthusiastic, yeah, enthusiastic at the very least. Sak liked the entire atmosphere of the Science Lab, but he almost dreaded what would actually happen on the mission. He had just read about the Breld Company and oh boy, they are not good news. Turning his thoughts away from such a dark topic, he turned his attention towards the Ferengi ensign. "Nice to meet ya, I'm Sak. Who are you?"

"Hello. I'm Paco Umali... I work in anthropology." he greeted as he introduced himself since everyone else was, partially blurting that last bit out. Always nice to see new faces around the science labs. This was quite nice. Paco simply nodded to Ensign Vokk, he might be the Ferengi he would see every now and then on the chatroom. That's neat. This is all neat. Maybe this mission would go great, actually.

"I'm vokk" He repeated for Sak's sake, non-ferengi tend to miss words "And nice meeting you too sak!, i hear, this group has a bad blood story with us?... hopefully our diplomats handle most of it, but admitedly i've only skimmed the reports, i'll be happy if we get to use the tractor beam... i just really like the tractor beam."

Sak chuckled as Vokk mention 777's history with the Breld Company. "Yeah, i guess you can say that. We really gave them a run for their money y'know. Natural for them to swear revenge. Don't worry, if we could beat them once, we can do it again. Just hope it's our diplomats that give us peace."

"Yeah, also this ship's a beauty, i feel lucky she was my first post, nothing against miranda and california classes but look at these systems!, bet we could scan a cloaked d'deridex trought a cosmic dust storm!" He started to get back to his egghead self "Bet she's perfectly able to do planetary surveys strata and bacteria included."

"The Breld Company does have a history with 777, yes." Paco said with a nod to both the ensigns. "They were, from my knowledge, responsible for cutting off communications between the Federation and colonists in Listone-3 as they were petitioning for Federation citizenship, and kidnapping the previous Starfleet away team sent there before we came and intervened." He further added and explained. He wasn't so sure since he wasn't present for that mission, but he had read a little on it. "Now, we have received some reports that the Breld may mount an offensive against the Federation. We're just sent to investigate if that is what's going on there." Paco said it plainly, mostly to clear things up. "If ever they are planning or moving to make an attack, then we are to possibly intervene... very little wiggle room for diplomacy against a company with a history of corruption, but hopefully it doesn't come down to fighting." He was really hoping for no shots to be fired and diplomacy to prevail, but he couldn't be certain. He can hope though.

Kureen nodded at Umali's statement. Unlike most of the crew, they themselves weren't personally familiar with the Breld corporation, only knowing the basic details of the assignment. Hope was a sentiment they could agree with, in this case even moreso than usual.

"Seems the away team is missing a science officer so far.. permission to be uncharacteristically brave Sir?" He asked towards Umali.

Sak nodded with Paco. "Nicely said. Let's pray bloodshed is not needed...." At Vokk's suggestion, Sak nodded enthusiastically, and spoke. "Ooh ooh! If Vokk's going, he's going to need a partner, since it's his first mission. Permission to accompany him?"

"...Make it so?" Paco nodded, not quite used to being called "sir" or people asking him his permission for things since its very rare for him to being in the senior end of that conversation... plus Kureen was right there, and they're a full lieutenant, so aren't they technically the senior officer of the group? Anyways, he was the one being asked, and a Picard impression was his first impulse when responding. "I think right about now, we should be heading to the shuttle bay to join the away team."

Sak jumped at the opportunity and grabbed a science kit he had kept on a desk and motioned for them to follow. "Thank you sir! Vokk, come quick, we're going to be late!"

Yeah he had totally confused his pips, still he started making his way to the shuttlebay with sak "Wish us look! i'll keep a channel to here open."

"Best of luck, you two!" Kureen called. "I myself will be staying here. Don't think they'll need to investigate any reptiles down there."

"Normally, I would also stay in the ship. I feel an Anthropologist won't be needed down there either, but I feel I should join them?" Paco asked as he looked over to Kureen as the two ensigns left the lab. "This is probably their first away mission, and I have field experience in away teams aboard the Eventide... what do you think, sir?"

Kureen glanced at the door, tracing the ensigns' footsteps. Their expression, for a moment, became more serious. "If you feel you are up to it, I think they would appreciate your guidance."

Paco gave himself a few brief moments to think it over, nodding once he came to a decision. "Alright then... I shall join them." Paco said with a bit more resolve as he prepared his science kit. "Thank you, Lieutenant... I'll keep you posted, sir. Good luck!" He said with a smile and a wave before he left for the shuttlebay.

"Good luck!" Kureen returned the statement, smiling as well. "Stay safe." _Now that the Eventide was in orbit and the away team was leaving, quite how serious this mission was had finished catching up to them._ In the meantime, they could keep the labs running, they could run the scanners if called for, and they could do their best to hold on to that earlier sentiment of hope.

Paco slowly returned to the Eventide's science labs. Finally, cold air, clean space, and no evil robots that are hellbent on killing them. His uniform was burnt in some places, but he didn't seem to mind as he placed his war trophies in a table and sat down to rest for a little bit... He regretted not doing the trashbin thing before he left, but was at the same time proud of himself for keeping the moral high ground by not doing it.

He went back to floor time as soon as his molecules reformed in a wobbly bzzz "I live here unless you see senior staff coming" he closed his eyes, just enjoying the sounds of a safe, beautiful starship, maybe tomorrow he would have more energy for now, rest.

"Alright, ensign..." Paco tiredly said as he got up to use a replicator, sweet sweet normal ass replicator, to give himself a bag of Takis fuego and synthale. "That was your first away mission right? Congrats, welcome to Starfleet." He said with a smile as he set his snacks down before getting a jar and a container for his APU head and arm trophies. "Many more to come." (edited)

Blinked after a while, seems he had spaced out "I'm sure there will be nicer ones, and maybe even worse ones.. hopefully not that" Oh right replicator, he dragged himself up just enough to replicate some bubble water "Yeah, i hope i did well enough for my rank and experience, i'm not obsessed with ranking but i don't want to be a bum either."

She entered and walked over to Paco. “Hey, do you have any extra head sized jars? Asking for a friend.” She asked with a smile. “All jokes aside I’m happy to be out of there, hell of a first mission.”

“Besides, theres nobody in engineering right now and I don’t want to be alone right now, can’t get the sound of skittering out of my head, if you don’t mind the extra company.” She looked down at the floor and grimaced.

"Sup lieutenant!" He keeps sipping his bubble water, he liked her, she was cool "I think we may have specimen jars, but is my first time on the ship" He looked at paco.

"....whatever they did can probably be reversed... right? or they could be deactivated humanely at the very least... somehow if encountered again..." Paco thought to himself outloud as he ate his takis. "I mean, they can't stay off forever..." Paco added submit to science and book appointment with counselor to his to do list. "I could study the head for a bit... maybe later... If Saren and Evoras tell me to dispose of it, Im giving it a funeral." Paco continued to think to himself outloud before turning to Vokk, also spaced out. "Eh. Sure buddy." *Paco refuses to give a guarantee of if missions get better or worse from here. "You did great for your first mission, Vokk. Room for improvement, but you did well, I feel." Paco said with a nod before he turned to Daso. "Lieutenant! Yes I have a few. Hold on" He said with a smile as he went back to grab a jar "In hindsight, I'm not sure if we're allowed to keep them to be honest" He whispered to Daso.

She smiled at Vokk, she thought he was cool too. “It’s my first time on this ship too, and its my first away mission on the 777. Not my first ever but I don’t get out often. Shuttle mechanics arent usually first picks for away teams.” She looked at Paco “Yeah they’re probably gonna take them, but I’m going to study it as much as I can first. Then I’ll put it back together correctly and give it a funeral. I’m not a monster.” She grinned “Thanks for the specimen jar, though. I hope we can be friends! I’m very new to 777.” She said as she looked to the side, socializing wasn’t her best skill, she spent most of her time with shuttles and circuits.

“Prophets, I can’t wait to get back to the 777, I miss my quarters. I certainly don’t miss shared quarters. Thats probably the best part about getting promoted to lieutenant, if im being honest.” She joked.

"Same... i feel its unbecoming of me to take them in the first place, despite the heat of the moment... Though as a preventative measure, studying into how they were modified would have some value in case the Breld pop up again. I feel a reprimand coming my way though, someone would have reported it at some point... I'll try to do things in proper channels before giving a funeral to mine" Paco said to Daso with a nod, still couldn't help but be worried and guilty. his expression widened in surprise to hear she was new to the station. "Ah, then in that case Welcome to 777! After what we went through today, I'm sure we'll be great friends!"

"Just make sure you follow protocols for dangerous external systems" He shrugged not his place to decide but it was good for them all to remember, specially with such an advanced system as any sort of robot "Aw i would miss shared quarter's! i can't wait to see my roomate, also yeah sure i'm up for making friends, the manual says good interpersonal relations make a stronger crew!" He sure did like that about starfleet, trying to cooperate and make each other stronger. "Admitedly i did also note we need to improve in a lot of aspects, but that's also in the spirit of it"

“Yeah, I just want to look at the circuitry, then i’m going to turn it in. It won’t take long.” She said as she tried to be slightly more professional. “Yelling at that civilian wasn’t my best move but in my defense she sucked and also spat on me.”

“Also, Ensign,” She looked at Vokk, “You did great!” She smiled.

"Since this would be under the sciences wheel house, I'll try asking first before we do anything." Paco advised Daso. "Ethically speaking, the APU may possess sentience, though I'm not sure how much of that stayed after the Breld modified them, so maybe don't start right away until we get further advice on what to do." Paco added before he took in a deep breath. "I don't think that defense makes it any better, but honestly, I knocked over some stuff in her office." He chuckled "She did burn files we could use as evidence though."

“I agree, we should definitely ask first, desecration of remains doesn’t exactly fall under ‘ask for forgiveness later’.” She said with a chuckle. “And I know it wasn’t great of me, but also, she got rid of valuable evidence and information! Which was so rude!” She said as she tried not to blow up at Paco, it wasn’t his fault that Liza was a bitch.

She sighed. “Alright, I’m beat. I’m going to find a place to take a nap until we get back to the 777. I deserve it. We should hang out sometime, though!”

"She's Starfleet Intelligence's problem now, not ours... I feel this won't be the last time we would be seeing her, somehow... She was quite rude, yeah..." Paco chuckled in agreement. "Alright, Daso. See ya later. I'll keep ya posted."

“Thanks, Paco. See you.” With that, she left the science labs to find somewhere dark and comfortable to catch a nap before docking.
